National Testing Agency (NTA) invites candidates to apply for Council of Scientific and Industrial Research University Grant Commission, CSIR-UGC NET exam determined to test the eligibility of Indian nationals for ‘award of Junior Research Fellowship and appointment as Assistant Professor’, ‘appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D.’ and ‘admission to Ph.D. only’ in Indian colleges and universities.

CSIR UGC NET June 2024 Upper Age Limit

JRF

Candidates’ age must be greater than 30 years as on 1st June, 2024. 5 years of age relaxation is provided to candidates belonging to OBC-NCL/SC//Third Gender/ST/PwD categories and to women applicants.

Assistant Professor

There is no upper age limit in applying for Joint CSIR-UGC NET for Assistant Professor.

Admission to Ph.D

There is no upper age limit in applying for Joint CSIR-UGC NET for admission to Ph.D.

CSIR UGC NET June 2024 Eligibility Criteria

  • General/ General-EWS must have scored at least 55% marks in Master’s Degree from recognised Institutions/ Universities.
  • OBC belonging to Non Creamy Layer/ SC/ PwD/ ST/ Third Gender must have secured at least 50% marks in their Master’s Degree.
  • Candidates pursuing their Master’s Degree or equivalent course or candidates who appeared in final year exam of Master’s Degree may also apply for the test. However, such candidates must pass their Master’s Degree within two years from date of NET result with cut-off marks otherwise they will be disqualified.
  • Candidates qualifying for ‘Admission to Ph.D only’ must complete their Master’s Degree within next one year from the NET result date failing which they will come under disqualified candidates’ list.
  • Candidates who passed 4 year/ 8 semester bachelor’s degree should have minimum of 75% marks. 5% relaxation are for those belonging to OBC NCL/ SC/ ST/ PwD.
  • Candidates who are pursuing bachelor’s degree and are in their final year/ semester can also apply for the test. However, they need to fulfil requirement mentioned in UGC Regulations, 2022 within 2 years (for award of JRF)/ within 1 year (for Admission to Ph.D only) from the NET result date.

CSIR UGC NET June 2024 Details of Exam

  • NET exam will be in Computer Based Test mode
  • Exam will contain 3 parts. All the parts will be objective type, multiple choice questions.
  • Medium of paper will be in Hindi and English. In case of any doubtfulness between translations of Hindi and English, consider English version to be correct.

Subject wise Exam Details

Chemical Sciences (701)

  • Part A, Part B and Part C will have 20, 40 and 60 questions respectively.
  • Candidates have to answer maximum of 15, 35 and 25 for Part A, Part B and Part C respectively.
  • In Part A, candidates will be awarded 2 marks for each correct answer while -0.5 marks for each wrong answer. For Part B, marking scheme will be +2 and -0.5 for each correct and incorrect answers respectively. Part C will have +4 for each correct answer while -1 for each wrong answer.

Earth Sciences (702)

  • 20, 50 and 80 are the number of questions for Part A, B and C respectively.
  • Candidates must answer maximum of 15 for Part A, 35 for Part B and 25 for Part C.
  • For each correct answer, Part A, Part B and Part C will award +2, +2 and +4 respectively.
  • For each wrong answer, 0.5, 0.5, 1.32 marks will be deducted for Part A, B and C respectively.

Life Sciences (703)

  • Part A will have 20, Part B will consist of 50 and Part C will contain 75 questions in total.
  • Candidates must answer maximum of 15 for Part A while 35 and 25 for Part B and Part C respectively.
  • +2 for correct answer and -0.5 for incorrect answer in Part A
  • Part B will award +2 and -0.5 for each correct and wrong answer respectively.
  • Candidates will score +4 for each correct answer while -1 for each wrong answer.

Mathematical Sciences (704)

  • Total Questions : 20 for Part A, 40 for Part B, 60 for Part C
  • Maximum no. of questions that can be attempted by candidates : 15 for Part A, 25 for Part B, 20 for Part C
  • Marks for each correct answer : +2 for Part A, +3 for Part B and +4.75 for Part C
  • Negative marking for Part A, B will be 25% while no negative marking in Part C

Physical Sciences (705)

  • Total Questions : 20 for Part A, 25 for Part B, 30 for Part C
  • Maximum questions to be attempted : 15, 20, 20 for Part A, B, C respectively
  • +2, -0.5 for each correct and wrong answer in Part A
  • +3.5 for each correct and -0.875 for each wrong answer in Part B
  • +5, -1.25 for each correct and incorrect answer in Part C
